Poland to open embassy in Rwanda, 3 cooperation deals inked
Poland’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs announced Monday that his country will open an embassy in Kigali next year, expected to strengthen the growing bilateral relations between the two countries.
Poland and Rwanda share a common history as countries that have previously dealt with foreign interference and dominance, Pawel Jablonski told a news briefing in Kigali, after holding talks with Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Vincent Biruta.
I am happy to announce that Poland reached a decision to open an embassy here in Kigali, which we are hopeful will be operational this coming year, he said.
“Our expectations from this visit have already been exceeded. We have held talks on many areas of cooperation which are developing fast. The opening of the Polish embassy in Kigali will add more impetus to this process,” Jablonski said.
He is in Rwanda for a three-day working visit with a delegation of senior officials and members of the private sector to explore areas of cooperation.
Biruta and Jablonski said that the visit reaffirmed the two countries’ commitment to further strengthen bilateral ties.

Rwanda and Poland already cooperate in education with more than 1000 Rwandan students studying in Poland. Last year, Rwanda opened its embassy in Warsaw.
On Monday the two countries also signed three new cooperation agreements in the areas of investments, higher education, and defense.
Rwandan Minister of Education Valentine Uwamariya said in the field of education the cooperation will focus on science and technology, research as well as agriculture partly in line with the government’s aspiration to build a knowledge based economy.
