Kagame names new defense minister, army chief
President Paul Kagame dropped his defense minister and the chief of Rwanda defense force, according to a statement issued late Monday by the president’s office in major changes to the country’s top security leadership.
Juvenal Marizamunda was appointed the new Defense Minister, replacing Maj Gen Albert Murasira while Lt Gen Mubarak Muganga, formerly Army Chief of Staff was named the new Chief of Defense Staff of the Rwanda Defense Force.
Muganga replaced Gen Jean Bosco Kazura who had served in the position from November 2019.
Marizamunda, was until his appointment the Commissioner General of Rwanda Correctional Services, where he was appointed in 2021.
He had previously served as deputy inspector general of Rwandan police in charge of administration and finance.
In other appointments Maj. Gen. Vincent Nyakarundi was appointed Army Chief of Staff while Jean Bosco Ntibitura was named the new director general of internal security in the National Intelligence and Security Services.
