Rwanda agriculture show focuses on building resilient, sustainable food systems

This year’s Rwanda National Agriculture show opened Wednesday in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital city under the theme of building resilient and sustainable food systems.

The show in its 17th edition at Mulindi show grounds will run until Aug.9, with about 470 actors in the agriculture sector from Rwanda and beyond expected to attend, according to the Rwandan Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources.

Patrick Karangwa, the director general of agriculture modernization at the ministry said that the event offers an opportunity to exhibitors to learn about new agriculture technologies and innovations.

Companies offering services to help increase production, agriculture mechanization technologies and financial institutions that offer farming and livestock loans can be found at the show, he said.

Major agriculture mechanization technologies and innovations for farm automation, soil testing, livestock technology, irrigation and modern greenhouse practices are being displayed.

Also on display are high quality seeds of improved varieties of different crops that can boost food production among others.

Olivier Kamana, the ministry's Permanent Secretary said the agriculture show “offers unequalled opportunity to leverage the showcasing of agriculture technologies and innovations, access to finance and entrepreneurship to fast track agriculture sector transformation.”

An exhibitor, who gave his name only as Elie exhibiting organic farming techniques, said he was ready to educate farmers about ways to increase production sustainably and effectively.
