Samuel Dusengiyumva reelected as Kigali Mayor

Samuel Dusengiyumva was Thursday reelected as the Mayor of the City of Kigali for a 5-year term.

Dusengimana, who was unopposed for the position was overwhelmingly elected with 397 valid votes cast, according to the National Electoral Commission.

Also reelected were two deputies Fulgence Dusabimana Vice Mayor in charge of urbanization and infrastructure and Martine Urujeni who was retained her position as Vice Mayor in charge of socio-economic affairs.

The electoral college was constituted by members of the city council and sector councils.

The election came a day after President Kagame appointed Dusengiyumva and five other councilors for the City of Kigali.

Dusengiyumva first assumed office in a by-election held in December 2023, when he replaced Pudence Rubingisa, who was appointed governor of the Eastern Province.

He previously served as the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government.
